PixInsight for Beginners Series

- A video series for using the basic processes of PixInsight to do a simple, DSLR data set.

Introduction to Image Processing: How to Start

Introduction, purpose, and setup for image processing using PixInsight and Photoshop.

Part One: File Management

Video explaining file management within MacOS.  This prepares us for using PixInsight.

Part Two: Getting Familiar with PixInsight

An introduction to basic PixInsight menus and screen setup.

Part Three: Image Calibration

The first step in processing astroimages, calibration, is explained here using PixInsight.

NOTE: Do Part Three "B" first to create the Synthetic Flatfield I used in this video.

Part Three "B": Creating a Synthetic Flatfield

In the event that you forgot (or misplaced) you actual flat-fields, you can use this technique to create a working flat-field "synthetically."

Part Four: Registration using Star Alignment

We use the StarAlignment process in PixInsight to properly register multiple light images prior to stacking.

Part Five:  Using PixInsight's
"Image Integration"

Turning a stack of already registered light images into a master (combined) light frame.

Part Six: Saving an Image

Saving an image in PixInsight in preparation for further processing steps.

Part Seven: Permanently Stretching an Image

Once we have a stacked image, how do we permanent "stretch" the image?  We look at the Histogram Transformation and Curves Transformation processes in PixInsight.

Part Eight: Noise Reduction in PixInsight

We look at PixInsight noise reduction processing, both "pre-stretch" and "post-stretch."

Part Nine: Contrast Enhancement in PixInsight

An optional routine whereby we use PixInsight to make the image "pop."

Part Ten: Sharpening and Finish Processing

Sharpening the image using PixInsight and fine-tuning in Photoshop.
